
Loren was born in Sioux Falls, SD and attended college at the University of Minnesota graduating in 1977 with a degree in architecture. He practiced professionally in Minnesota and Virginia.
Loren Abraham has over 40 years experience in the building and construction industry including 29 years as a licensed architect, 15 years experience teaching thermal design and indoor environmental quality courses at the graduate level at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture. During his career Loren has focused on high quality design and has led innovation in the development of advanced building analysis software, window and day lighting systems, ecological materials, and intelligent manufacturing systems. He has contributed significantly to education about energy and environmental issues as well as the design of high performance buildings. He has been instrumental in the development of “green” building standards such as LEED™ and the Whole Building Design Guide. Over the past 20 years he has served as a continuing education instructor for the AIA, the Department of Energy and FEMP. He was a founding member of the US Green Building Council and past chairman of the Sustainable Buildings Industries Council. He also served as Window and Building Envelope expert to the White House from 1992-96 and on the Energy Design Tools Steering Committee for the Department of Energy.
Loren enjoys volunteering for Feed My Starving Children on a regular basis. leading bible studies, coaching youth baseball, woodworking and gardening.
